Photography's unique ability to literally use light to describe has entranced me so much that it not only became my artistic medium of choice, but my passion and vocation for the last twenty years. Photographic technique is a second language to me. The elements of expressive composition, the subtleties of interplay between subject matter and form, the moments when inner light radiates back and through the lens, these are manna to me. My photographic vision, long practiced yet far from perfected, is now the foundation for the way in which I see, from the everyday to the cataclysmic. Harsh reality takes on the glamour of dreams, insidious beauty is revealed in decay, self-perception is reflected in a catchlight. The precise moment in time when the image is captured will never exist again. I am still in awe.

About the Artist

D.K. Barbieri has a Cum Laude Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, with Special Honors in Critical and Historical Writing. She has worked many years in the photographic industry, both behind the camera and in the lab. D.K. currently resides in Southern New Jersey with her husband Brad and her three children, Gabrielle, Damien and Torrin, from whom she draws her inspiration and drive. She currently works as a portrait photographer and is forming her nascent photography business under the studio name Tangible Light.
